Recycled Rubber in Industry

As we continue to find new ways to help sustain our environment, recycling is becoming more popular and more advanced. With new advancements in technology, we have been able to increase our recycling abilities tremendously. As a result, companies can take large quantities of old scrap tires and re-purpose them to be used as recycled rubber in industry. Many industries have been taking advantage of these new products and using them on a day to day basis.

Recycled Rubber In Industry

Recycled rubber is very durable, resilient, and dense material which makes it perfect for creating safe, reliable, and shock absorbent products.  Aside from the rubberized asphalt, a lot of recycled rubber makes its way back onto our roads in the form of fenders, crash bumpers, splash guards, and even portable speed bumps. By the same token, recycled rubber is used in the production of wheel blocks and temporary road sign stands. The high weight, density, and durability makes this rubber perfect these applications.

Alternatively, recycled rubber can be manufactured into rubberized liquid coatings as well. With new technology advancements, industrial rubberized coatings can now contain up to 70% post-consumer recycled content. This cool product has a huge variety of uses, including; waterproofing, anti-corrosion, crack sealing, and is even solvent and oil resistant. Rubberized coatings can be rolled on, painted on, or sprayed on, making them very versatile.

We have also seen recycled rubber used in the production of railroad ties. As an alternative to wood, these synthetic composite/rubber ties offer a number of significant advantages over their natural counterparts. Being completely resistant to insects and rot, these rubberized railroad ties tend to have a significantly longer life span than traditional wooden ties. The increases shock absorption qualities of the rubber also have a tremendous effect in reducing train vibrations and noise, especially when used on bridges.

In next week’s blog we will hear about the inventive and unique creations made by people for use in every day life!
