Newton White Athletic Center - IMPACT Athletic Team Lockers
After providing custom lockers for Johns Hopkins Field Hockey in the summer of 2025, Abacus Sports Installations quickly began conversations about another major locker room upgrade on campus. Coming off a 12-2 season in 2025, the Johns Hopkins Football program was next in line.
Abacus worked closely with the Blue Jays’ coaches and facility staff to design the lockers and overall room layout. Located beneath the historic Homewood Field grandstand, the project presented a unique challenge with 103 lockers divided between two separate rooms. With limited space available, each room needed to comfortably accommodate more than 50 players while also functioning as a team film room.
The finishing touch is a fully customizable integrated lighting package. Continuous toe-kick lighting is recessed beneath the lockers, while washer lights embedded behind the nameplates illuminate each locker from above. Coaches can control the lighting to change the energy and atmosphere of the room as the team prepares to take the field.
With support from the Johns Hopkins fundraising department and university alumni, the finished locker rooms combine functionality, program branding and premium details without sacrificing valuable space. Blue Jay scholar-athletes now have a new home beneath Homewood Field to prepare for game day and carry the program’s Pride & Poise through the tunnel and onto the field.
Once the locker dimensions and orientation were established, the focus shifted to customization. Branding and aesthetics were major priorities, with custom locker graphics, multiple Johns Hopkins logos, and integrated lighting transforming the two rooms.
The custom phenolic IMPACT Team Lockers measure 30″W x 24″D, providing ample space for each player’s equipment and personal belongings. Built-in cushioned seating lifts to reveal a ventilated footlocker below, while oversized overhead storage accommodates shoulder pads and additional gear. Each upper compartment features a garage-style door with soft-close hinges and additional ventilation accented by a custom “Jays” script logo.
