For decades, the town of Newport, New Hampshire envisioned a modern community recreation center. The previous facility, originally constructed in 1939 and converted into a recreation center in 1967, had become outdated, with worn athletic flooring that diminished the quality of play. After the need for a new facility was first identified in 1995, the project finally became a reality through a combination of federal and state grants, along with generous private donations.
The new $9 million, 19,000 sq. ft. Newport Community Center officially opened in March 2025, providing residents with a modern destination for recreation, fitness, and community events.
Installed by Abacus Sports Installations in February 2025, more than half of the facility features ICONIC sports flooring systems designed for long-term performance and durability.
At the heart of the facility is a 9,100 sq. ft. IMPACT Wood gymnasium, delivering a high-performance playing surface for athletics, recreation, and multipurpose community events.
Beyond the gymnasium, the community center features a 2,000 sq. ft. Padenpor seamless urethane recreation area designed for group fitness and multipurpose programming, along with 400 sq. ft. of POWERStock Roll flooring in the strength training area.
The result is a cost-effective municipal recreation facility built to serve Newport for generations. Whether hosting youth sports, fitness classes, or community gatherings, the Newport Community Center now provides residents with modern, high-quality athletic spaces that will support the community for years to come.
