When the Penn State football program needed weight-room flooring for their training facility expansion, Abacus Sports Installations was honored with the opportunity to deliver. Designed by the architects at HOK of Philadelphia and contracted by Mortenson, the Penn State Lasch Football Building Renovations had been planned since May 2019.
Now, Penn State University boasts a state-of-the-art weight room following the completed expansion in Spring 2023. The Nittany Lion football team can achieve all of their fitness goals inside the new 13,000-square-foot space, thanks to high-quality recycled rubber flooring and indoor training turf.
Recycled rubber is the ideal weight-room surface due to its durability, safety, and environmental benefits. It offers optimal shock absorption and injury prevention for athletes during intense training sessions. With a seamless transition between the rubber and training turf, Penn State gains enhanced versatility and performance for their workouts.
“New equipment, expansion; we’ll have turf in there, so we won’t have to come outside. We can do everything inside, like on a rainy day. Everything will be in there that we need,” said Penn State WR Harrison Wallace III.
Penn State’s investment in upgrading the Louis and Mildred Lasch Football Building not only supports the Nittany Lions in achieving their fitness goals but also plays a crucial role in recruiting and retaining top talent in the competitive Big Ten Conference.
